Dr. Liana Valente, Soprano

SAI People-to-People Project

In November of 2009, it was my honor to be appointed as the fifth Director of the Sigma Alpha Iota People-to-People Project, one of the outreach projects of SAI Philanthropies, Inc., the charitable arm of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. The People-to-People Project is committed to assisting teachers, musicians, orchestras, bands and music schools throughout the world, especially those in underdeveloped or war-effected areas, by providing instruments, music, accessories and access to American music and composers. For the past 40 years SAI People-to-People has had the opportunity to work with musicians around the globe; we have a long-standing and strong relationship with Holy Trinity Music School in Port-au-Prince, have sent electronic keyboards to a music teacher in Belize, and most recently sent an alto saxophone to a music educator in Nigeria. The requests that I receive from teachers, deans of colleges, US military personal, and ambassadors are both great and small; recent requests have included music education materials and instruments for an academy for Autistic children in the Turks and Caicos Islands and instruments for youth orchestras in Ecuador.

Working cooperatively with shipping companies and other aid organizations in the United States and abroad continues to be an important part of my job. Recent successes have included work with Agape Flights, Partners in Health, and World Vision; these relationships allow the People-to-People project to be even more effective.
